Emmanuel Church

Emmanuel Church was founded in Spring 1965 as Mississippi St. Full Gospel Pentecostal Church by influential community leader Bishop Wells and wife Evangelist Mattie Wells. The church grew quickly and in 1969 the congregation moved onto 25,553 SF of their very own site, located at the intersection of North Sumner Street & North Michigan Avenue and became Emmanuel Temple Full Gospel Pentecostal Church. As the size and influence of Emmanuel Temple grew in the local African-American community, the ministry expanded to include community outreach activities such as economic development, gang outreach and family reunification.
